11% SALARY RAISING WILL NOT RESOLVE YOUNG TEACHERS’ PROBLEMS – LYCEUM DIRECTOR

15 september, 2017

A single raising of salary by 11% will not resolve problems young specialists in the field of education are facing, said Nina Horjan, Director of the “Child Academy” lyceum at the Friday’s meeting with Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu.

She said that salary of ordinary technical worker of the Parliament exceeds 3 thousand lei, while novice teacher in school is receiving 2950 lei and after the September increment (11%) it will be approximately by 300 lei higher.

“I cannot explain to young teachers, who are fulfilling socially important function, why they receive so little wage. Besides, salary of young teachers does not allow them to rent or buy housing”, Nina Horjan said.

She reminded that a while ago there were dorms for young specialists in the Sectorul Ciocana of Chisinau, while now it is unknown what happened to them. According to her, the government should start building social housing.

A representative of parents said at the meeting with Candu that deputies should seriously think on resolving problems of not only teachers, but also educators and technical personnel in kindergartens.

“There is a catastrophic situation in pre-school institutions, workers are receiving slightly more than 1 thousand lei and the decision of the Government on raising salaries to civil servants by 10% will not resolve the problem”, she said.

According to Candu, the salaries to teachers will continue being raised, besides there is idea to provide to them meal tickets.
