PRESENTLY, ONLY 3 PARTIES HAVE CHANCES OF GETTING TO PARLIAMENT – POLL

03 octomber, 2017

If a parliamentary election were held in Moldova next Sunday, only three organizations would be able to win seats in the new legislative forum – the Party of Socialists (PSRM), the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), and the currently ruling Democratic Party (DP), as per the findings of the opinion poll carried out by the “Viitorul” [“Future”] Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS). The poll results were presented on Tuesday.

IDIS has found out that the Socialists would receive 51.1% votes of citizens who have already made up their mind, the PAS – 24.1% and the Democratic Party – 6%. The electoral destiny of three more parties has been within the limits of the poll’s statistical error.

Namely, the Platform Demnitate si Adevar [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] would poll 5.8%, the Communist Party (MCP) – 4.5%, and the Partidul Nostru [Our Party] – 3.9%. All the rest parties are ranking substantially below the electoral barrier of 6%.

The pollsters have revealed that 46.7% of interviewed respondents are ‘absolutely sure’ they will go to the polls, another 21% – are ‘sure’, and 8.2% said, “May be, I will go”.

In the rating of citizens’ trust, the leading personality is President Igor Dodon – with 17.3%. Following much behind him is PAS leader Maia Sandu – with 4.8% and DA Platform leader Andrei Nastase – with 1%. And the DP leader Vlad Plahotniuc, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Our Party leader Renato Usatii, Communist Party chairman Vladimir Voronin and Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu polled less than 1% each.

For comparison: Dodon’s trust rating was standing at 26.6% last January, and Maia Sandu’s – 9.9%. The ratings of the above-mentioned gentlemen have not practically changed.

The poll was carried out on September 9 through 20. It included 1,109 citizens eligible to vote who reside permanently in 13 of Moldova's 34 cities and raions [districts]. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±2.8%.
