UNIONISTS DEMAND TO ENRICH SCHOOL CURRICULUM WITH CELEBRATIONS OF 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF SFATUL TARII

17 november, 2017

The Unirea-ODIP Association, actively working for Moldova's unification [Unirea] with Romania, has called on the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences to introduce into the school curriculum a special set of undertakings dedicated to the approaching 100th anniversary of Sfatul Tarii [Council of the Country].

Unirea-ODIP chairman Vlad Biletchi wrote in an official letter to Minister Monica Babuc that this is absolutely necessary to do because the current year marks the 100th anniversary of Sfatul Tarii, "and the young generation must know and must venerate the memory of this landmark event in the history of Moldova".

"We are convinced that if every educational institution in Moldova organizes such events, our youth will become better informed and will come to realize the need for promoting the nation's essential-most values such as the patriotic spirit, culture and the Romanian language", wrote Biletchi.

The unionists propose to hold open lessons, class discussions, publishing of wall newspapers, writing of topical essays, as well as extra history lessons at which teachers will be providing the in-depth knowledge of the history and principles of Sfatul Tarii.

"We hope that our idea will be positively perceived by the authorities and that the proposed events will become the first step to a real awareness of the nation's history by the young generation.

Infotag's dossier: The Sfatul Tarii-1 [Council of the Country] was elected by the congress of the World War I veterans from Bessarabia that was held on November 2-9, 1917. Sfatul Tarii was then declared parliament of the Russian Empire's Bessarabia province. After the declaration of the independent Moldovan People's Republic in December 1917, Sfatul Tarii became its legislative organ. On March 27, 1918 it declared the republic's unification with the Kingdom of Romania, shortly after which the forum ceased its existence on December 10, 1918.
