GOVERNMENT TO RAISE FINANCING FOR CATERING IN SCHOOLS IN 2018

17 november, 2017

General Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences Igor Sarov said at the Thursday's parliamentary hearings that in 2018, the financing for feeding children in schools will be raised.

According to him, the Government adopted measures on raising the quality of catering in educational institutions, developed a number of normative documents and minimal requirements to pre-school institutions, warehouses for food storing and canteens. Currently, these documents are being considered.

Deputy Director of the National Food Safety Agency Ion Toma said that only 923 of 1224 canteens in kindergartens meet sanitary requirements, while in schools 254 canteens of 1147 need repairing.

Anticorruption Prosecutor Viorel Morari said that sentences have been issued against five officials and economic agents, who were involved in supplying expired food to educational institutions.

Socialist MP Vasile Bolea criticized reporters for absence of concrete solutions on the discussed issue. According to him, the focus should be put on punishing those, who were supplying rotten food to kindergartens.

"Your reports are just idle talk about the implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement. We have to punish founders of enterprises in order that no one else to ever dare supplying rotten food to educational institutions", he said.

After several hours of debates, MPs agreed to prepare a parliament decision for the next sitting, as well as a black list of economic agents, which participated in supplying expired goods to educational institutions.
