COURT ALLOWS MAYOR CHIRTOACA TO PARTICIPATE IN ROMANIAN KING MIHAI'S BURIAL

13 december, 2017

The court allowed Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, who is under judicial control, to go to Romania for attending the burial of King Mihai the 1st of Romania.

According to the Tuesday's court decision, Chirtoaca, who was suspended from duty, was allowed to go to Romania within the period of December 13 through 17. After his returning to Chisinau, he has to inform the court about this.

Last week, judge Alexandru Negru declined Chirtoaca's request on allowing him to temporarily leave the country. He demanded Chirtoaca to present proofs that he knew the monarch personally. Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Party presented such proofs: in 2013 he became knight of the Order of the Crown, which was handed over to him by King Mihai the 1st at a special ceremony.

The farewell ceremony will start on Wednesday and will last till Saturday. It will be attended by the delegation from Moldova, headed by Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu. Three-day mourning was declared in Romania.
