MOST CORRUPT OFFICIALS IN MOLDOVA ARE JUDGES AND POLICE – NACC

Judges and police officers are holding sad leadership in terms of corruptibility among Moldovan officials, say the National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC) data for 2017, according to which 119 cases of violations were committed by judges and police officers.

They even outstripped representatives of business sphere (115 cases), local administration (100), medicine (30) and education (16).

NACC investigators closed 881 offenses, 698 of which are corruption acts and 61 – money laundering.

The corruption offenses are classified into getting of benefit from influence (209 cases), passive corruption (151), abuse of power (91).

Among those detained there are 45 police officers and 43 directors of private companies and state institutions, 34 customs officers, 17 mayors, 10 judges, nine investigators, four ministers or deputy ministers.

Over 69% of corrupt actions is taking place in Chisinau and country’s central raions. In Balti there are 22%, in Cahul – 9%.

In 2017, out of 1939 criminal cases that are being investigated in by the NACC, 610 were solved. The damage, established during the investigations, accounted for 47 million lei. Suspects’ property worth 10 million lei was arrested, while 2 million more were voluntarily returned by malefactors

NACC specialists conducted 842 expert examinations for corrupt character of documents and suspect actions.
