PRESIDENT DODON WANTS TO MAKE MOLDOVA'S HISTORIC FLAG AS A NATIONAL SYMBOL

05 february, 2018

President Igor Dodon is going to propose to the Parliament to approve the historic banner of Moldova's as the country's national symbol, he wrote in the Facebook on the occasion of the opening of the Year of Saint Stefan cel Mare today.

"I am putting forward a new pro-Moldova legislative initiative for the Parliament to consider. This is a bill on legalizing the historic banner of Moldova's as a national state symbol. The incumbent tricolor shall remain unchanged, preserving its importance as the official flag of the Republic of Moldova", said Igor Dodon.

"The banner will impart a more solid character to our state symbols. Such historic symbols, including historic banners, have been officially established in Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, Finland, Norway and other countries. A total of 66 states have legitimized their additional state symbols", the President said, and voiced hope that most of Parliament Members would approve the idea to make the Stefan cel Mare banner an extra symbol of modern Moldova.

The historic banner represents a piece of red cloth [red is the color of the pro-presidential Party of Socialists] with the image of a bison head on it.
