MEDIA WATCHDOG FROWNS AT N4 TELEVISION CHANNEL

07 may, 2018

The N4 TV channel may stop broadcasting if its own programs do not meet the airplay requirements. On Friday, the Audiovisual Coordinating Council (ACC) postponed the voting on license renewal, which expires on May 18.

Nicolai Drastic, Head of License and Authorization Department stressed that the ACC has repeatedly warned the N4 channel and fined it for violating various provisions of the Code on Television and Radio Broadcasting.

ACC Chairman Dragos Vicol reminded that the last monitoring of the channel revealed deviations from provisions of domestic product.

"The N4 had to broadcast eight hours of domestic product, although it broadcasted only three hours and16 minutes. Out of six hours of local product only two hours and 18 minutes were prime time. The worst part is that the channel broadcasted two hours in the state language instead of four", he said.

Vicol noted that the information provided by the channel does not give clear understanding of whether the broadcaster will comply with the provisions on the local product or not.

A representative from the N4 TV channel informed the ACC members that the broadcaster works on increasing the number of its own programs, however, he admitted that so far it partially meets the requirements for the local product.

ACC member Olga Gututui said that some TV channels are monitored more frequently than others, that is why there may be a mistaken impression on the broadcaster.

The ACC members decided to postpone license renewal and allowed N4 to correct the inconsistencies in order to avoid the situation, when the Council will have to rebuff.
