BALTI MAYOR PROPOSED GOVERNMENT TO PASS GARBAGE DUMP TO CITY AUTHORITIES

02 august, 2018

Balti Mayor Nicolai Grigorisin proposed the Moldovan Government to pass the garbage dump to the city authorities.

According to the local media, the Mayor announced this proposal in the presence of member of a special commission, created by the governmental order to resolve the problem of garbage removal from the city to the landfill. The commission consists of representatives of several ministries and Balti Mayor Nicolai Grigorisin, Chairman of Singerei Raion Vasili Marandiuc, Mayor of Bilicenii Noi commune, Ivan Orlovschi, and Mayor of Tambula commune, Mikhail Col.

The question is about a land area of 5 hectares in the Bilicenii Noi commune and 19.5 hectares in the Tambula commune of the Singerei Raion. The Commission will have to determine whether there are legal grounds for expropriating the land. According to the law, in the case of expropriation, the owner of the property must receive compensation.

The “garbage crisis” in Balti is periodically escalating after the concessionaire, who was engaged in garbage collection in the city, refused to do so on December 15, last year. The service was transferred to the municipal road maintenance and construction department; however the waste storage remained in the private trader’s management. He sometimes closes the entrance to this landfill.

Now the municipalities are in a state of another aggravation of the crisis. The city garbage is not taken out. According to the city Mayor, the concessionaire has not done anything on the waste storage, for several days already. On July 25, the access for garbage collection vehicles to the landfill was blocked.
