PREMIER CRITICIZES AGRICULTURE MINISTER FOR INACTION

13 september, 2018

Prime Minister Pavel Filip toughly criticized the work of Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Liviu Volconovici due to absence of measures for combating ambrosia and suspicious activity around the Agricultural University dormitory.

At the Wednesday's Government sitting, the premier reminded that last week he demanded the Ministry to develop a draft on including ambrosia into the list of prohibited plants, but the ministry submitted an informational note from Wikipedia instead of the draft.

"I have done your work. Here is the draft law, which has recently been adopted by our colleagues from Romania, so you do not need to worry, search in Wikipedia or send to me such letters", he said.

Filip also said he received a message about students of Agricultural University, who were transferred from their dormitory into others' before the beginning of the academic year.

"You have to cancel this order and give the possibility to students to stay where they feel well. Please, execute my order, but not in the way you did with ambrosia. Do not economize on students, you better economize on irrigation systems, which consume millions of lei. I understand that these are very attractive land plots (territory of dormitories) between the Pushkin and Vieru streets. Do not even try, as no public-private partnership will pass through the Government and no one will be allowed to lay hands on this territory", he stressed.

The minister made tried to explain the situation, but the premier interrupted him, saying that no one asked him to talk.
