ACUM MOVEMENT DEMANDS ISS DIRECTOR DISMISSAL

25 september, 2018

The ACUM National Resistance Movement ,which united the right-wing opposition parties "Demnitate si Adevar" [DA, "Dignity and Justice"] Party, Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM), conducted on Tuesday a protest action in front of the Information and Security Service headquarters, demanding to dismiss its Director Vasile Botnari.

The rally gathered around 40 people, some of them were wearing sacks on heads and were holding banners "Botnari must resign!", "ISS turned into KGB!", "Botnari is trafficker!".

PAS Chairwoman Maia Sandu explained that the motive for conducting the protest was the detention and expulsion of seven teachers of Orizont lyceums in early September.

"Making this step, the ISS proved that it is a captured government institution and instead of dealing with the issues of citizens and state security, it turned into a cudgel of the Plahotniuc-Dodon's regime. Botnari is Plahotniuc's man; he is responsible for destroying the families of teachers, who were extradited to Turkey. His actions jeopardized human lives and we came to demand to dismiss this person", the oppositionist said.

DA general secretary, ex-policeman Chiril Motpan maintains that the ISS returned to the KGB practice, while Moldova gradually is transforming into a police state.

"Our rally is aimed at demonstrating that in the republic there are healthy social forces, which will not allow the instauration of an oligarch-led criminal regime. Protests will continue till the victorious end", he said.

According to LDPM до победного конца Tudor Deliu, Moldova does not meet the principles of a law-governed state, as it is impossible that in a free country teachers, who invested so much in the republic's educational system, to be torn out from families and thrown in the middle of nowhere.

"Similar thing may happen to any of Moldovan residents. We have to prevent this: citizens should unite against the oligarchs' regime", the politician said.

As Infotag has already reported, several citizens of Turkey - teachers who were working in the Moldovan-Turkish lyceum Orizont, were detained by Moldovan special service and expelled to Turkey on September 6. This caused indignation in the Moldovan society and from the side of European partners. Already on September 7, teachers and pupils of the Orizont lyceum, together with the ACUM movement, organized a protest in front of the Parliament and the ISS, while European MP Siegfried Muresan stressed that the EU cannot trust Moldovan authorities anymore.
