GOVERNMENT WILL PAY COMPENSATION TO A STRASENI WOMAN

12 octomber, 2018

The Government recognized the violation of the rights of a woman from Sraseni, who was abused by her fellow villager. She will receive 7.5 thousand euros as compensation for moral injury and as covering of legal costs.

According to the Promo-LEX human right organization, the Government and the plaintiff concluded a peaceful agreement, thus the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) decided to stop the lawsuit consideration.

The woman was abused by her fellow villager back in 2012. Despite her complaints and demands of moral injury compensation, the raion court ruled to pay to her only 3 thousand lei and to sentence the aggressor to three years. However, the Appeals Chamber changed the real imprisonment for the probation.

The woman sued to the ECHR as she regarded the proposed compensation as humiliating. Meanwhile, due to the fact that the aggressor remained at large, she continued to be subjected to harassment from him.

After long proceedings, which lasted till summer 2018, the Government decided to settle and to pay 7.5 thousand euros to the woman as moral injury compensation and for covering the legal costs.
