HALF OF MOLDOVA CITIZENS DID NOT FEEL CHANGES IN QUALITY OF LIFE IN 2018 – OPINION POLL

Almost half of Moldova citizens (48.8%) did not feel changes in the quality of life last year in comparison with 2017, as per the findings of the opinion poll that were presented by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova.

About 27% respondents stated that last year was worse, and 21.2% said that it was better. And compared with the 2014, 1.4% of the respondents said that now they live much better than five years ago, 12.1% - better, 43.3% live the same, 23.3% worse and 16.9% much worse.

According to the opinion poll, 70.3% of the respondents believe that the country is moving in a wrong direction, and the opposite opinion is held by 15.1%. A little more than 5.4% believe that in a year life in the country will be much better, 30.7% - better, 25.7% - will not change, 17.6% say that it will deteriorate, and 5.2% believe that it will be much worse.

Most people are concerned about rising prices for food and utilities (32.6%), poverty, low wages and living standards (28.4%), migration and demographic situation (21.8%), corruption in all spheres and bank theft (20.3%), as well as unemployment and lack of well-paid jobs (15.8%), the future of the country and children/parents (14.7%).

Moldovans are least concerned about the situation in medicine (6.1%), interethnic relations and language issues (6.7%), economic situation and stability (8.1%), as well as social infrastructure (9.6%).

The opinion poll was carried out by the order of the Chisinau branch office of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations on January 4-19 among the 1179 respondents from 81 localities of the republic, with the exception of Transnistria. The opinion poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
