EXHIBITION OF 18-19TH CENTURY CHINESE ART OBJECTS OPENS IN CHISINAU

A series of the graphic, decoration and small sculpture arts of 18th-19th centuries from the collection of traditional Chinese art in the heritage of the National Art Museum of Moldova will be exhibited on January 30 through March 3 in Chisinau.

According to the Chinese Embassy, a special place in the exhibition will be given to Nianhua graphic works – these are New Year images that remind about an ancient Chinese tradition to decorate the houses with pictures of various topics of national arts.

“The Nianhua unites a wide spectrum of topics: historical and legendary personages, religious motifs, Chinese folklore, literature and theater masterpieces”, said the Embassy representative Boris Coada.

According to him, the series of religious works will also be presented at the exhibition.

“It is made of various types of icons the Chinese were putting in their houses for protection, wealth and success. Also, the graphic pictures represent the main desires the Chinese have - prosperity, childbirth and rich harvest. All the pictures transmit the integrity of spiritual culture of China and preserved their symbolism along centuries”, Coada said.

The sophisticated sculpture works are made of porcelain, ivory, wood and bronze. The admission to the exhibition is free.
