ROMANIAN EX-PREMIER TO SEEK PROVIDING 11 MILLION EUROS TO MOLDOVA FOR IMPLEMENTING SOCIO-CULTURAL PROJECTS

12 february, 2019

Ex-premier, Chairman of the "PRO Romania" Party Victor Ponta wants to achieve the introduction of amendments to the 2019 Romanian State Budget, which imply the providing of 11 million euros for implementing socio-cultural projects in Moldova.

According to the press release of the European People's Party of Moldova (EPPM), which signed a cooperation agreement with the "PRO Romania", the allocated funds should go to the continuation of the program on rehabilitating Moldovan kindergartens and schools, the reconstruction of the Mihai Eminescu Theater, the Chisinau Organ Hall, the Bogdan Hasdeu Theater in Cahul and other historical buildings.

Victor Ponta stressed that if Igor Dodon can bring money from Moscow, then it is Romania's historical obligation to provide financial support to Moldova.

"We should give more attention to Moldova to show we did not forget our brothers from across the Prut River", the politician said.

According to EPPM Chairman, Moldovan Deputy Premier for European Integration Iurie Leanca, Moldova is currently in the midst of the election campaign.

"Unfortunately, the internal forces that advocate revanchist views - Socialists, supported from abroad, keep manipulating our history and the role of Romania in it. Thus, the Bucharest's firm position is today necessary more than ever", the politician said.

Iurie Leanca and Victor Ponta established friendly relations in 2014, when they were premiers. Back then, Leanca was Deputy Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, while Victor Ponta - Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Romania. Against the decision of his party, Leanca supported Ponta's candidature at presidential elections in Romania, but the victory went to Klaus Iohannis, who was supported by the LDPM.
