MOLDOVA READY TO INTRODUCE JOINT CUSTOMS CONTROL AT ANY BORDER STATION – VITALIE VRABIE

05 april, 2019

Director of the Moldovan Customs Service Vitalie Vrabie met with Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) Slawomir Pichor and said that Moldova is ready to introduce joint control at any section of the border with Ukraine and with Romania.

According to the Customs Service’s press release, Vrabie said that the priority direction in the agency’s activity is the raising of joint interaction with partners.

“There are all the conditions for this. Besides, both economic agents and citizens, who cross the border, have to win. I hope that with the EUBAM help, the number of joint control stations will be growing”, he said.

According to him, a useful experience may be implemented at the Tudora customs checkpoint at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, where there is necessary infrastructure for placing the services of checking and control.

Pichor said that the joint control proved that it is an efficient mechanism for simplifying the legal trade and traveling, as well as for strengthening the border security in the region, which was proven by the launching of joint control in the Palanca-Mayaki-Udobnoe checkpoint in late December 2018.

Since late autumn 2017 till now the joint control is conducted in six customs stations on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.

One more topic of discussion at the meeting is the combating of violations in Moldovan Customs Service divisions, which would be conducted under the EUBAM auspices.

Vrabie thanked the EU for permanent support in raising the technical level of Customs Service laboratories.
