MOST MOLDOVANS SAY COUNTRY IS MOVING IN WRONG DIRECTION - POLL

Over 75% of Moldovan citizens say the country is running in the wrong direction, and only 18% say the opposite. These are the results of an opinion poll, conducted by the Institute of Marketing and Surveys (IMAS).

43% respondents are displeased with economic situation in the country, 34% - not quite pleased, 14% - pleased and displeased, 7% - pleased, 1% - very pleased.

Over one-half of respondents say that in comparison to the last year their life did not change. 26% of them said they started to live worse, while 20% – better. Only one-third of citizens say that they will live better within a year, while 21% – that their life will worsen.

Had a referendum on EU accession taken place in Moldova this Sunday, 58% would have voted “for”, while 28% - “against”. At an equivalent referendum on accessing the Eurasian Economic Union, 47% would have voted “for” and 37% - “against”.

Less than 30% or respondents support the unification of Moldova and Romania, but twice as many – against it. A similar situation is in the field of the Moldova’s accession to the NATO, as this idea is supported by only 18% of citizens of Moldova against 62% opponents of the accession to the treaty.

The opinion poll was carried out among 1110 residents of Moldova on March 17 through April 5. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±3%.
