RUSSIAN JOURNALIST BEGINS HIS RESEARCH ON LAWLESSNESS IN MOLDOVA

17 may, 2019

Prominent Moscow journalist Alexander Malkevitch, a Member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, has decided to begin studying closely the situation developing in Moldova and to make public all the facts of lawlessness in the republic to come into his possession. He announced this in the social networks, explaining that the reason of this enterprise of his was the way he was treated in the Chisinau International Airport earlier this month, when he was denied entry to the republic.

“I had never been in Moldova before, and on May 8 I was flying there with warm feelings and kindest intentions. But Moldovan border guards at the airport did not let me into the country. The authorities got scared of something. Well, in such case we will be communicating in another way”, wrote the journalist.

Malkevitch called Moldovan human-right activists, journalists, civil society activists and all not indifferent citizens to send to him to Telegram “materials, news, interesting facts etc. of the lawlessness flourishing in Moldova due to the oligarchic regime of Vlad Plahotniuc & Co.”.

“Me and the leading analysts of our Foundation for Support of National Values will be attentively monitoring the situation in Moldova and will be carefully publishing everything what the Moldovan mass media are silent about”, wrote Alexander Malkevitch.

In his opinion, to understand Moldovan jurisprudence, one should pay attention to a crying story.

“In June 2017, a Chisinau court sentenced prominent Moldovan businessman Ilan Shor – the husband of popular Russian singer Jasmine – to 7.5 years in jail for financial machinations: he had a relation to the withdrawal of huge means from three Moldovan banks. Nevertheless, he is not behind bars – he is the Chairman of the Ilan Shor Party and now he is a Member of the Moldovan Parliament. Stories like this one, portraying Moldova not in the best light, are very many. But to make international human-right organizations pay attention to this entire arbitrariness, we must get united!” wrote Alexander Malkevitch.

As was already reported by Infotag, last May 8 the border policemen at the Chisinau Airport substantiated their refusal to let Malkevitch into the republic as follows: “In the course of the border control, he was not able to substantiate the purpose of his coming to the republic”. Lately, this wording has become the Moldovan authorities’ stenciled explanation to the numerous instances of banning the entry to Russian journalists (NTV, Ren TV, Life News, federal newspapers etc.), political scientists, historians and even artists and musicians.

The Public Chamber of the Russian Federation is a state institution with 126 members, having distinguished merits for the state and society, created in 2005 to analyze draft legislation and monitor the activities of the parliament, government and other government bodies of Russia and its Federal Subjects. It has a role similar to an oversight committee and has consultative powers. A convocation of the Chamber is in power for a two-year term.
