PLAHOTNIUC’S CLOSEST COMRADE KILLED HIMSELF – POLICE

One of the closest associates of Democratic Party ex-leader Vlad Plahotniuc – well known businessman Iurie Luncasu – committed suicide, informed the police inspectorate of the Sectorul Buiucani of Chisinau on Sunday.

According to the information, at 8:07 PM on August 17, Luncasu’s driver Boris Babin called police and reported about suicide. According to him, approximately at 7 PM, he was called by his boss to come, as Luncasu wanted to go outside the city. The driver came by a service car, the businessman sat in the car and they went to the road Ialoveni-Durlesti. There, Iurie Luncasu asked the driver to stop and dictated to him a note with the following text: “I bought the white house in 2017, I was investor”.

He said he had to think what to write next and to whom to transmit the note, went out from the car to get some air. After that, under the very eyes of the driver, he shot himself from a gun. The driver called ambulance, doctors pronounced the businessman dead.

“In the State Arms Register, Iurie Luncasu is written as owner of 6 items of firearms. The reason of suicide has not been established yet”, the police says.

Luncasu has never been a public person, he always preferred to remain in shadow. Nevertheless, press was writing about him as about one of the most influential persons in Vlad Plahotniuc’s circle. He also was regarded as Plahotniuc’s friend, as they were doing business together in early 2000s. Besides, they were relatives – Luncasu was married to Plahotniuc’s sister, Elena. The media was also writing that Luncasu has many times been seen with Plahotniuc in France and Switzerland, where Plahotniuc is holding a house.

Iurie Luncasu was President of the Business People Club “Interdependenta”, as well as shareholder in the following companies: SC «DENIR LUX», «PRIMPROF CONSTRUCT», «ACVILIN-GRUP» and «GB & CO». These firms are functioning in the field of construction, in producing and importing furniture, in trade in cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. Unconfirmed reports suggest that a part of profit from cigarette and alcohol smuggling these companies were engaged in, was going to financing the DP.

Luncasu also officially was owner of a residential house, known in Chisinau as “white house” – a huge house with a household plot in elite raion of Chisinau was built in the style of the White House in Washington. It seems that it is this building that is mentioned in the suicide note.
