TV CHANNELS WITH NATIONWIDE COVERAGE TO BE MONITORED NON-STOP DURING ELECTION CAMPAIGN

The Audiovisual Coordinating Council (ACC) will be conducting round-the-clock monitoring of several TV channels and radio stations with nationwide coverage in the lead-up to local elections.

ACC member Lidia Viziru said at recent press conference that the decision concerns four TV channels – Moldova-1, Moldova-2, Prime and Canal-2 [which intends to renounce the nationwide broadcasting] and two radio stations – Radio Moldova and Radio Moldova Tineret. The monitoring will be implemented in three stages: on TV channels it starts on September 30 and will last till the Election Day (October 20).

Members of the council say such a narrowing of control spectrum (before control was applied on all the TV and radio channels) is due to lack of personnel resources.

Another ACC member Veronica Cojocaru said that she was not informed about the list of channels that will be subjected to control.

“Six channels is the necessary minimum for which we have to report to the Central Election Commission (CEC) during the election campaign. But this does not mean we have to limit ourselves just to this figure”, she said, adding that she will request extending of the list of channels for monitoring within election campaign.
