MINISTER OF JUSTICE CALLS TO LISTEN TO VENICE COMMISSION’S OPINION

15 octomber, 2019

Minister of Justice Olesea Stamati has called on judges to listen to the Venice Commission’s opinion, particularly in the context of the attempts by judges’ general meeting to dismiss Superior Council of Magistracy Members without sound grounds for this.

The Minister wrote in the social networks that the Ministry of Justice, acting with a due respect for the Venice Commission’s recommendations, will shortly make amendments in the draft law on the reform of the Supreme Court and the Prosecution Service. The Ministry will also take notice of the opinions expressed by local judges and law specialists.

“After this we will publish the revised draft law text in order to continue consultations with interested parties, particularly with judges, prosecutors, lawyers and the civil society. We are counting on the participation of all interested parties to finalize the draft law and submit it to parliament for adoption”, wrote the Minister.
