ACTING PG CALLS ON SCM TO DE-IMMUNIZE A JUDGES

23 octomber, 2019

Acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu addressed a request to the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) to deprive of immunity one of judges due to starting of a criminal case against him.

According to the newsmaker.md portal, temporary head of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) Dorel Musteata said that the court has 5 days to consider the request. He refused to disclose the name of the judge, adding that today the document consideration failed due to lack of quorum.

Musteata said that the request also mentions judges who organized the General Meeting of Moldovan Judges and spoke at it, as well as those who are candidates for the post of SCM member.

He said that SCM members receive signals from organizers of the General Meeting of Judges with the demand to resign.

“None of members of the current SCM will resign. If they already dismissed us, why they keep demanding us to resign? Their position is unclear”, Musteata said.

Besides, Musteata said that SCM members still have not received originals of documents about conducting of the General Judges Meeting on September 27. He still believes that there are no legal grounds for convening another general meeting on October 25.

Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Minister of Justice Olesea Stamate have several times said that the judiciary needs urgent cleansing.
