CMC APPROVES THREE DEPUTY MAYORS PROPOSED BY ION CEBAN ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT

27 november, 2019

The Chisinau Municipal Council approved on Wednesday three candidates for the posts of Deputy Mayors, proposed by Mayor Ion Ceban. The appointment was considered at the CMC’s previous sitting, but back then the three candidates lacked one vote each, while the necessary support was provided only to representative of the “Forta Noua” movement Victor Chironda.

On Wednesday, the CMC approved ex-State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences Angela Cutasevici, which will be engaged in the social sphere; lawyer Ilie Ceban, who will be responsible for legal issues; incumbent Moldovan Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Estonia Inga Ionesii, who will have to deal with the economic activity and the investment sphere.

All three candidates got 27 votes each of 45 councilors present at the sitting. The votes came from councilors of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), the Democratic Party of Moldova (DP), the Ilan Shor party and the Forta Noua political movement. The factions of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and the “Demnitate si Adevar” [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] Party either abstained from voting or voted against, regarding the candidates as politically affiliated.

The councilor of the National Unity Party (PUN) Corneliu Pantea said that the selection of candidates took place behind-the-scenes, on political criteria: two of four deputy mayors were proposed by Socialists, two – by Democrats, while the Shor Party is biding this alliance.

Mayor Ion Ceban answered that the Primaria [city government] should not be engaged in politics and thanked councilors for the support, as the deputy mayors will finally start working. The mayor called on the new deputy governors to carefully listen to opinions of all Primaria employees and the citizens.
