ILLEGAL BUILDERS ARE UNDER PROTECTION OF LEGISLATION IN MOLDOVA – BALTI MAYOR

29 november, 2019

“Legislation in Moldova prohibits local authorities to demolish the illegal constructions. This is not correct”, said Balti Mayor Renato Usatii at the Thursday’s meeting with a group of Czech urban planners, designers and architects.

European partners arrived to Moldova to assess the republic towns’ landscape, deciding to start from the country’s northern capital.

The Balti governor lamented that there is no urbanism in the city as such.

“However, our main problem is a great number of illegal constructions. From the technical point of view, I could have organized the demolishing of this ugliness within two nights. Though, the law prohibits this and I will seek canceling of these provisions at the national level”, he said.

Usatii hopes that the cooperation with the Czech side will be fruitful.

“We and the Czech partners think the same, but we will be working faster than they imagine. The visit of city planning and geo-informational specialists is a gift for Balti and we must not refuse it”, he said.

Moldova holds one of priority places among countries the Czech Republic is providing assistance to. Works on changing Moldovan towns’ landscape will be conducted during three years on the basis of grants from the Czech Government.
