PUN SAYS NO TO LIBERALS

24 december, 2019

The National Unity Party (PUN), headed by Octavian Ticu, renowned here as “an independent ACUM parliamentarian”, has rejected the Liberal Party’s proposal to form one large pro-Romania movement that would combat for Moldova’s unification with Romania.

On Monday, Octavian Ticu convened a news conference to report the results of the Saturday sitting of the PUN National Council. Ticu stated that PUN is “a party of reunification” [with Romania], but this project is related not only to the unionist segment of the society but to all Republic of Moldova citizens independently of their ethnicity or the language they speak.

“PUN is a right-centrist party abiding by the Christian Democratic ideology, and we have a broader and more complex-like look on the current situation in Moldova. We stand up not for forming the voting bloc being proposed to us by the Liberals, but for a bloc that will be agreed on not only with the Liberals and unionist forces, but also with other pro-European parties”, explained with Octavian Ticu.

In his words, the PUN is expecting a decision on the results of negotiations with the Romanian Popular Party (PPR), “with which a merger may take place or our absorption by it”.

Ticu touched also on the question of PUN’s candidate for the 2020 presidential election and for the soon-to-be by-elections in the Hincesti constituency, and said decision will be taken by the Party’s Political Bureau upon the completion of negotiations with the PPR.
