FUEL PRICE GROWTH WAS REASONABLE – PREMIER

20 january, 2020

Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated that the raising of prices on automotive fuel was well founded.

Answering to journalists’ questions on Monday morning, he reminded that the correction of prices on fuel is conducted annually in January in accordance with the new excise taxes that are implied in the Law on the State Budget.

“This is happening for already over 10 years. This is a normal process. Besides, the prices are being changed in the course of the year, If we compare the January 2020 and the January 2019 prices on fuel, we can see there is no much difference”, Chicu said.

Also, he reminded that recently changes have been introduced in the legislation, according to which it is not the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) that is establishing prices, but the economic agents.

“We are living in conditions of market economy, but not under communism, when prices were established once for the next 50 years, thus the society should have more understanding of processes that are happening in the economy”, the premier said.

Despite this, the head of the Government promised to check how fairly the prices were recalculated. According to him, this issue was discussed with President and Speaker of the Parliament last week. They decided to create a special commission which will be engaged in controlling the process of forming prices on basic goods.
