ALEXANDER STOIANOGLO WAS OFFERED PROSECUTOR GENERAL’S POST YET IN 2013

21 february, 2020

Alexander Stoianoglo could become Moldova’s Prosecutor General yet in 2013, when he received such offer from oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc.

Stoianoglo said in his interview with Ziarul de Garda newspaper of Chisinau that during his meeting with Plahotniuc, he put forth two conditions to the ‘country master’.

“I shall personally bear full responsibility for the personnel policy in the Prosecution Service, and there shall be no political appointments in that state institution. And the second condition was: everything shall be according to the law in the Service. After that, nobody has ever addressed to me with such an offer”, said the incumbent Prosecutor General.

He refuted assertions that since 2007, when he resigned as Deputy Prosecutor General, he had not allegedly maintained any contacts with the Prosecutor General's Office. He explained: “In 2010-2014, I was Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee for National Security, Defense and Public Order, so I was aware of many events and was acquainted with many people”.

Stoianoglo expressed confidence that the three Deputy Prosecutors General, selected personally by him, are incorruptible professionals. Also, he has no doubt about the new Heads of the two specialized prosecution structures – the Anti-Corruption Prosecution Service [aka "Anticoruptie"] and the Prosecution Service for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases [OCSC].

As was already reported by Infotag, Alexander Stoianoglo was a deputy of the Moldovan Parliament from the Democratic Party in 2009-2010 and in 2010-2014. He quitted the Democratic Party due to principal discords with then-DPM leader Vladimir Plahotniuc.
