SUBSISTENCE LEVEL IN MOLDOVA GREW 7.3% OVER A YEAR

The subsistence level in Moldova exceeded 2031 lei (US$111.2) per month on average person in 2019, which is 139 lei more than a year before.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the highest rate is in Chisinau and Balti – 2292.3 lei, which is 13.8% more than in other country urban localities (2013.5 lei) and 18.3% more than in the rural area (1938.4 lei).

The highest subsistence level is registered at people of working age – 2016.1 lei, especially men – 2194 lei. For children this rate varies between 771.7 lei for children under 1-year-old to 2197.9 lei for children aged 7 to 17.

The average monthly disposable income of the population per capita (2880.6 lei) exceeded the subsistence level 41.8%, while the average salary (7756.1 lei) – 3.4-fold in 2019.

The subsistence level for pensioners was 1707.4 lei last year, while the old-age pension covered it 107.9%.

The allowance for children under 3-years-old (1759.5 as of early-2020) covered the subsistence level by on average 104.6%, but only for the insured persons. The allowance, paid to uninsured mothers (640 lei) was 62% smaller than the subsistence level for children aged 1 to 6.
