02 april, 2020

Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban said in an online press conference on Thursday that the equipping of a quarantine center in the territory of the MoldExpo Center is vital, given the coronavirus pandemic, which is invading the country more and more with each passing day.

However, he said that the exact date of opening the center has not been established yet.

“Understanding clearly that the situation is critical, the Primaria [city government] assumed costs on equipping the center and its subsequent maintenance. Even if this is not our prerogative, in the current situation we decided to act as fast as possible. Besides placement of beds and the necessary devices from the hospital №3 in the center, catering for medical staff and patients will be organized, as well as costs for logistics and waste disposal will be provided. There will be four entrances in the center. As of today, the 1st department is already prepared. Preliminary it is planned that patients with confirmed diagnosis from 5 Chisinau hospitals will be brought to the center. The Primaria allocated additional 1 million lei for equipping the center. Governor of the Sectorul Buiucani of Chisinau Vadim Brinzaniuc was appointed as responsible for the center functioning. Now, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection has the last word on opening the center”, the city governor said.

According to Ceban, 7.5 million lei from the city budget have already been spent for buying protection equipment, masks, gloves and special suits.

“However, we regard these expenditures as justified, because it is about lives of our compatriots”, the city governor said.
