BELIEVERS PRAY FOR SALVATION FROM COVID-19

07 april, 2020

The calls of believers to pray at home and ask the God for salvation from the coronavirus pandemic that captured the country is gaining momentum in Moldova.

In an interview to Infotag, an elderly woman – parishioner of a Chisinau church – said that she repeats prayer 33 times seven times per day, asking the Lord for power and salvation from this dangerous virus.

“We, the believers, are saying the main prayer of Orthodox Christians – the Lord’s Preayer seven times per day. The prayer is repeated 33 times at 6 o’clock in the morning, and then each 3 hours. The last time I say the prayer 33 times at midnight before going to sleep”, the lady said, pointing that many other parishioners from her church are saying this prayer at the same time.

Asked why the prayer should be said namely 33 times, she said that this is connected with the age of Jesus Christ.

“Son of God Jesus Christ was baptized at 30 and started preaching and teaching his disciples, but for his faith and teaching he was crucified at the age of 33”, the woman explained.

After the state of emergency was introduced in Moldova, most churches were closed to the public. The religious services, conducted by the clergy, are broadcasted by various TV channels. The Metropolitanate of Moldova and the Metropolitanate of Bessarabia ordered that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the bells on all country Orthodox churches to ring each day at the noon.
