PREMIER CALLS TO MOBILIZE RESOURCES TO QUICKLY RESPOND TO FLOODING

Prime Minister Ion Chicu visited Vadul lui Voda, where he held a meeting with officials directly on the banks of the Dniester in connection with the rising water level in the river. The Premier called for mobilizing resources and monitoring the situation in order to quickly take preventive measures.

“We will act quickly and in an organized manner, intervene with materials, equipment and people where necessary. Dams are public investments in the security of localities and should be protected by local authorities”, the Premier said.

He asked for assessment of loses in flood-affected localities. The water level in the Dniester River has recently increased by 3.5 meters in the city of Otaci.

The national weather service is forecasting that by July 2, the water level in the Naslavcea-Dubasari section may rise by 2-2.2 meters and downstream to Talmaz – by 2.5-3.4 meters.

“There are no high risks at the Naslavcea-Dubasari section at the moment, except for the city of Soroca, where a part of the city can be inundated”, the experts believe.
