MoH CALLS ON POLITICIANS NOT TO MISLEAD PUBLIC

26 june, 2020

High-ranked representatives of the Moldovan Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection have called on politicians to stop making false statements concerning the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Moldova that only mislead the society.

Speaking on Friday at the presentation of a new MoH weekly report on the current epidemiological situation, Director of the National Agency for Public Health Dr. Nicolae Furtuna said that the Ministry meant first and foremost the statements that Moldova is allegedly standing on the world’s leading [i.e. worst] places by various indicators of coronavirus spread and by the damage and victims it causes.

“We in Moldova have 4447 infection cases per 1 million of population. Of course, this is a high figure, but it is incomparably smaller against the indicators of the European zone”, said the expert.

According to the MoH data, the number of coronavirus-caused deaths in Moldova has reached 510 by Friday morning, or 146 deaths per a million of population. For comparison: in Belgium, which is now on the first place in Europe, this indicator has reached 839 deaths per a million of population. In Moldova, the death rate constitutes 3.3%, which is comparable with such indicators in Estonia, the Czech Republic and Norway.
