A caravan of trucks from Poland has delivered to Chisinau a humanitarian assistance worth 121 thousand euros to help Moldova combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Moldova, Bartolomiej Zdaniuk, said at a handover ceremony on Friday that the consignment includes 30 thousand medical masks, 4,800 protective screens, 22 thousand liters of antiseptic liquids.

"This is a sign of our good cooperation with Moldova and our readiness to offer a shoulder in a time so hard for all", the diplomat said, adding that the Government of Poland had decided to render such humanitarian assistance to all the 6 member countries of the Eastern Partnership Program "who have a European future".

Ambassador Peter Michalko, the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova welcomed the assistance provided by Poland, and stressed that the coronavirus crisis has affected all countries, "so it can be overcome only by joint effort".

Peter Michalko assured that the European Union will continue its assistance for Moldova to facilitate its overcoming the crisis and to rehabilitate the national economy. He expressed gratitude to frontline health workers for their hard labor at combating the COVID-19 and saving people's lives.

This is Poland's second humanitarian consignment for Moldova since the pandemic beginning. In May, the first consignment consisted of oxygen concentrators worth 23.5 thousand euros.
