THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE DOES NOT CONFIRM INFORMATION, STRESSING THAT IT DOES NOT ADJUST THEIR ACTIONS UNDER THE POLITICAL AGENDA

The Prosecutor’s Office of Moldova did not refute, but did not confirm the allegation that the Prosecutor General intended to come to Parliament on Thursday with a request and depriving of the immunity of three members of Parliament. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), the institution “has its own program of action, which it does not coordinate with the political agenda”.

The Prosecutor General’s Office “categorically rejects any attempts to involve it in confrontation and political disputes”.

“The PGO does not need mediators-politicians who inform civil society about the actions of the PGO that it is taking or intends to take. The law enforcement agency will independently inform citizens about its own activities and the progress of investigations by prosecutors of criminal cases. The Prosecutor General’s Office expresses its sincere hope that prosecutors will be allowed to continue to devote activities focused on clarifying the truth in high-profile cases. This is important both for the citizens of the country and Moldova’s external development partners”, the prosecutors’ statement reads.

The PGO addresses the Moldovan politicians (who at the level of declarations speak of the importance of ensuring the independence of justice) “to abandon populist rhetoric that grossly violates the principle of procedural independence of the Prosecutor's Office and discredits the activities of law enforcement agencies”.

Attorney General Alexander Stoianoglo also denied information that he intended to come to Parliament on Thursday.

“I did not intend to attend the Pparliament meeting today. I don’t understand where such information came from. It’s clear that this is an attempt to involve the Prosecutor’s Office in political activity”, Stoianoglo said.
