PAS INTENDS TO DEMAND FROM AIRLINES TO REFUND COSTS FOR TICKETS ON CANCELED FLIGHTS

12 august, 2020

The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) intends to demand from the Moldovan airlines to return the cost of tickets for canceled flights. PAS deputy Galina Sajin stated this at a briefing in the parliament on Tuesday.

She noted that since March 16 - the introduction of a state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, hundreds of flights have been canceled.

“The passengers faced a big problem. Airlines Air Moldova and Fly One categorically refuse to refund the cost of tickets. At the same time, company Wizz Air will refund the cost of tickets in case of flight cancellations. Moldovan companies, in violation of the legislation, evade the provisions of the law. At best, they return only a small part of the funds - airport taxes. Or they offer vouchers, which also cannot be used in full,” the MP said.

She said that she had contacted the Civil Aviation Authority on the question, but the situation has not changed.

“Moreover, despite the pandemic, airlines continue to sell tickets knowing that there will be no flights. On the eve of the flight, they report the cancellation, but again refuse to refund the ticket price. Travel agencies, which also suffer by actions of Air Moldova and Fly One, have already pointed on this,” Sajin emphasized.

She suggested initiating a public consultation with representatives of airlines, the Civil Aviation Authority, parliament, government and the public.

“We are preparing a congregate lawsuit to obtain a refund in accordance with the law. We invite all the victims to apply and join this class action lawsuit,” Sajin said.
