NAPH DIRECTOR ANNOUNCES HIS RESIGNATION

Director of the National Agency for Public Health (NAPH) Nicolae Furtuna announced his resignation after discriminatory statements about those who died from the coronavirus, the government's press service announced this on Tuesday.

"Prime Minister Ion Chicu invited the director of the National Agency for Public Health (NAPH), and during the meeting Nicolae Furtuna announced his resignation," the message says.

The epidemiological situation in the country, the amount of available equipment and the capabilities of the medical system to combat the pandemic were also discussed.

"The Prime Minister highly appreciated the professionalism of Mr. Furtuna and thanked him for his work and efforts at the position of the head of the NAPH during an extremely difficult period at the national and global levels. Ion Chicu expressed deep regret over the statements made recently in the public space by the former chairman of the NAPH," the statement says.

Vasile Gustiuc, the deputy of the agency, will become the acting director of NAPH.
