PRESIDENT IGOR DODON: SPECIAL SERVICE SHOULD RESIST ATTEMPTS TO INFLUENCE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS FROM OUTSIDE

10 september, 2020

President Igor Dodon said that the special services must resist attempts to influence the presidential elections from outside. He said this on Wednesday at a ceremonial meeting with employees of the Information and Security Service (ISS), dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the Service.

"This year is difficult, including or even primarily for national security. We face COVID-19 pandemic, drought. And then there is the presidential election, the tendencies of instability characteristic for an election year. Any state institution plays its role in this difficult situation," Dodon said.

He said that "there are those who want to destabilize the situation."

"Including attempts to destabilize from outside, you can already see that this is taking place. I am confident that you, as professionals, will be able to withstand. Politics is a huge challenge for you. I ask you to be out of politics. We - politicians - will figure it out. Politicians come and go, but you remain on guard of the interests of the state," the President stressed.

He also pointed out that "instability in the region is added to these risks."

"And in all these conditions, the activities of the institution acquire new dimensions," said Dodon.
