OP LEADER RECOMMENDS GOVERNMENT TO THOROUGHLY CLEANSE SCHOOL PREMISES AFTER ELECTIONS

16 september, 2020

On November 1, many polling stations in Moldova will be organized in school premises. So there, the date of November 2 should be announced as a day off for pupils and teachers, Renato Usatii, leader of the Partidul Nostru (Our Party, OP) and the Mayor of Moldova’s second largest city of Balti, stated at a news conference in Chisinau on Wednesday.

He believes such a measure would be very important for avoiding possible problems related to cleansing of the schools and their treatment with disinfectants.

“In Balti, for instance, there will be 58 polling stations, of which 48 will be opened in schools, as the decades-long tradition goes. On the election day, thousands of people will come to their habitual polling areas. After the voting, there will follow a vote-count job and formalization of election-related documents. With an account of the coronavirus pandemic, the situation in such schools will be not easy at all. So, in order to avoid an outbreak of the infection, I presume the pupils and teachers in such schools should be given a day-off”, proposed the opposition politician.

Renato Usatii criticized the National Emergency Public Health Commission for its proposal to avoid organizing polling stations in school premises.

“But where else? May be in pharmacies, or theaters, or in disco clubs? I think that local governance bodies can also take an active part in the post-election cleansing of the premises used for the voting, and the job will be done all right”, presumes Renato Usatii.
