EBRD AND EIB TO PROVIDE 23 MILLION EUROS FOR CHISINAU WASTE UTILIZATION PROJECT

The Chisinau municipal enterprise Autosalubritate [solid domestic garbage removal] will receive from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank 23 million euros for the project called “Solid Waste in Chisinau”. This issue was discussed at the today’s meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council [city legislature].

According to the project, an 18-million-euro credit and a 5-million-euro grant will be used for equipping the capital city’s main dumpsite facility at Tintareni in accordance with European Union standards.

The credit, to be furnished against 0.6% p.a. interest rate, will be payable in 12 years, with a 3-year grace period in payments.

The source of financing for repaying the bank credit, interest and commission will be ensured by means of annual correction of tariffs on solid waste collection and transportation.

The Chisinau Municipality’s contribution to the project will be 7.96 million euros, of which 1.5 million euros has already been invested.
