CEC APPROVES FINAL RESULTS OF ELECTION FIRST ROUND, SCHEDULES SECOND ROUND FOR NOVEMBER 15

The Republic of Moldova’s Central Election Commission has approved the final results of the presidential election first round and has appointed second round for November 15. At its meeting held on Wednesday, the CEC also approved ballot-paper model for the second round.

On November 15, the presidential post will be contested by two candidates: Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Chairperson Maia Sandu and incumbent President Igor Dodon, who polled in the first round 36.16% (487,635 votes) and 32.61% (439,855 votes), respectively. In this very sequence – Sandu above Dodon – their names will be placed in the ballot-paper sized 12 by 14 centimeters.

According to the final results, on November 1 the first round of the presidential election was attended by 1,368,516 citizens of Moldova eligible to vote, or 48.54% citizens included into the State Voter Register. Initially, the CEC announced that voter turnout at the first round was below 43%. But that figure did not include the Moldova citizens who voted in foreign countries (149,840) and voters from the Transnistrian region (14,185).

In the first round, the 3rd best was Renato Usatii of the Partidul Nostru (Our Party) – 16.9% (227,939 votes). Then followed Violeta Ivanov of the Sor Party – 6.49% (87,542); Andrei Nastase of the DA Platform – 3.26% (43,924); Octavian Ticu of the National Unity Party – 2.01% (27170); Tudor Deliu of the Liberal Democratic Party – 1.37% (18,486); and Dorin Chirtoaca of the voting bloc Unirea – 1.2% (16,157 votes).
