EU TO SUPPLY MORE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO MOLDOVA SOON

26 november, 2020

Moldova will soon receive one more consignment of medical equipment from the European Union, including 40 artificial lung ventilation machines to combat COVID-19, Igor Pokanevych, Head of the World Health Organization Moldova Office, announced during his meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Ion Chicu on Wednesday.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the measures already taken and yet to be taken to reduce COVID-19 incidence in Moldova.

The Premier described the pandemic situation in Moldova, remarking with regret that the number of coronavirus-infected citizens had exceeded 100 thousand.

“We would like to know which further measures we should undertake to stabilize the incidence situation. Now we are working on a new list of decisions to manage the epidemiological situation. They will be approved on November 27 at the sitting of the National Emergency Public Health Commission”, said the Prime Minister.

Ion Chicu asked the WHO officials when an anti-COVID-19 vaccine may come to Moldova, in what amounts, and what the Government should undertake to speed up its purchase.

Igor Pokanevych said that information on this question will be available in a few weeks. Presently, the World Health Organization is studying the list of vaccine producers. Initial consignments should permit to supply a vaccine for 20% Moldovan population.
