VALIDITY OF PASSPORTS OF MOLDOVAN CITIZENS WILL BE EXTENDED UNTIL 30 JUNE 2023 - PREMIER

19 may, 2022

The Prime Minister, Natalia Gavrilita, has announced that the validity of Moldovan citizens' passports, which expired between January 1, 2020 and December 30, 2022, will be extended until June 30, 2023.

According to her, such a decision was made on Wednesday at a meeting of the Commission on Emergency Situations.

"This decision is due to the fact that for the third year, for objective reasons, many Moldovan citizens have not been able to come to the country to change their passports. It was difficult to do so because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now it is difficult because of the war," the premier stressed.

In addition, she recalled that after the war started in Ukraine, "the demand for documents increased significantly," including from residents of Transnistria or Moldovan citizens living abroad.

"There are long lines everywhere, including at our consulates abroad. In this regard, from June 1, passports that have already expired on January 1, 2020 or will still expire before December 31, 2022, will be extended until June 30, 2023. This extension will be automatic, no need to come to the consulate or the offices of the State Service Agency. Passports will be considered extended. Many countries that face the same problems have taken advantage of this measure. We have to notify specialized international organizations and during the scanning of the passport it will be seen that it is valid until June 30, 2023," Gavrilita concluded.
