Top European Banker Herbert Stepic elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Moldindconbank

The new Chairman of the Board of Directors is an internationally acclaimed visionary in the financial world who advocates for Central and Eastern Europe's attractiveness for investors

One of the top specialists on the international banking market, who has played a decisive role in shaping its development in Central and Eastern Europe, Herbert Stepic has been elected the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of BC Moldindconbank S.A. at the meeting of the Bank's Board of Directors on May 25th.

Herbert Stepic looks back to over 40 years of banking experience with the Raiffeisen Banking Group Austria, opening subsidiary banks in Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina and 9 other CEE countries. From 2001 to 2013, he acted as CEO of Raiffeisen International Bank-Holding AG. Under his guidance, the bank has evolved into one of the leading banking groups in Central and Eastern Europe.

Herbert Stepic is known as the architect of “Western Banking” during the transition phase of the region. At the same time he is an acclaimed advocate for Central and Eastern Europe's attractiveness for investors. Over the years Herbert Stepic has proven to be a visionary for financial markets in emerging markets. He was the first Western banker establishing banking relations with Iran after the 1979 revolution and one of the first to establish a foothold in China.

Herbert Stepic graduated from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration with Masters and PhD degrees. In recognition of his efforts to promote international relations and trade, he has been awarded numerous prestigious national and international decorations, inter alia „The European Banker of the Year 2006“ and the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria, which honours his economic merits regarding RBI's international commitment and the pioneering work in Central and Eastern Europe.

In 2006, Herbert Stepic founded The H. Stepic CEE Charity Association to promote and support children and women from the region, who suffer from social, economic and health-related problems.

On 27.04.2020, the Executive Board of the National Bank of Moldova has approved Herbert Stepic and Thomas Michael Higgins as Members of the Board of Directors. Thus, the process of the BC Moldindconbank S.A. top management consolidation has been successfully completed.
