TIRASPOL LEADER SAYS CRISIS IN PMR IS DUE TO EXTERNAL FACTORS

27 february, 2015

President of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan republic (PMR) Yevgeny Shevchuk said that Moldova and Ukraine carry out activities on direct undermining the republic’s budget opportunities by means of introducing additional restrictions on export and import of Transnistrian goods under the mottoes of changing external economic activity rules.

In his Thursday’s address to the people of Transnistria and public authorities, Shevchuk said that during the last year he has sent a plenty of signals to Moldovan partners with the call to ensure the maintenance of dialog at a decent level on the basis of the accelerated solution of economic problems in relations between Tiraspol and Chisinau, but most of these initiatives was ignored.

“In February we have again proposed the initiative, directed to lifting mutual restrictions in trade. It was based on the mutual interests and is aimed at alleviating the situation of both Transnistrian and Moldovan economic agents”, said Shevchuk, without giving details.

According to him, the most important factors of destabilizing impact on Transnistrian economy are processes of world and regional economic instability, as well as depreciation of national currencies of Ukraine and Moldova, which predetermined the drop in business activity and in the entire Transnistrian economy.

Shevchuk maintains that for stabilizing the situation, infusions worth US$2 to US$3 billion in economy and social sphere are necessary.

“In conditions of the external pressure upon the country and with an obvious pursuit of Chisinau and Kiev to change the political course of the republic, prevocational actions are to be expected within the country as well. Information sabotages, disturbing the public and directed against the country and its authorities, are well financed both from outside and from inside the country”, said the Tiraspol leader.
