TIRASPOL LEADER GOES TO MOSCOW TO SOLVE PMR FINANCIAL PROBLEMS

02 april, 2015

President of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan republic (PMR) Yevgeny Shevchuk urgently departed to Moscow with a working visit, which includes a number of meetings aimed at discussing the current socio-economic situation in the region.

According to the president’s website, on Tuesday the problems in Transnistrian economy became the topic of discussion during his meeting in Tiraspol with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Moldova Farit Muhametshin.

“Pressure on economy is exerted by a number of external factors, linked to world and regional economic instability. Unfortunately, the additional measures, taken by our partners in Ukraine, are negatively influencing the Transnistrian budget revenues”, said Shevchuk, adding that the latest decisions are aimed at whipping up the situation in Transnistria through the prism of socio-economic problems.

He regarded measures, taken by Chisinau on returning Transnistrian economic agents to the Moldovan legal field, as discriminative.

According to Shevchuk, Moldova and Ukraine should abandon the practice of criminal prosecution, introducing blockades and different sanctions.

The Russian Ambassador said that officials in Moscow, who were empowered to provide assistance to Transnistria, know about the current situation and region’s problems.

“I guess that soon these issues will be discussed in details, ongoing decisions will be taken, including those forward-looking”, said he.

Infotag’s dossier: According to the latest data of the Transnistrian government, 98 million rubles (US$8.8 million) arrived to the budget over March, which is 40% less (56 million rubles) than a year ago. Revenues to the social insurance fund went down 24 million rubles. The industrial production and external trade volumes have considerably lowered. Tiraspol lays the blame for this on Ukraine and Moldova, accusing them again of economic blockade of Transnistria.
