​RUSSIAN CONTINGENT IN TRANSNISTRIA SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH EVERYTHING NECESSARY – RUSSIAN DEFENSE MINISTRY

The voting by the Ukrainian Supreme Rada for denunciation of the agreement on Russian military transit via Ukraine will not upset the provision of the Russian peacekeeper contingent in Transnistria with everything necessary, Four-Star General Yury Yakubov, Coordinator of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Directorate for General Inspectors, stated to journalists on Friday.

General Yakubov stated that the Russian military-transport aviation “will build an air bridge to Transnistria”.

“The Ministry of Defense has no option except ensuring its military with everything necessary by using an air bridge by means of heavy cargo airplanes. Of course, such situation is substantially complicating the provision of our contingent in Transnistria, but I am sure a way out shall be eventually found. We shall not let anybody to keep our peacekeepers on a starvation diet”, stated the General of the Army.

Yakubov voiced apprehension that such actions by the Ukrainian authorities may lead to aggravation of situation in Transnistria and become a pretext for revising the current peacekeeping format in the Transnistrian region or canceling it at all.
