UKRAINIANS OF TRANSNISTRIA REPORTED TO HISTORICAL HOMELAND THAT NOBODY OPPRESSES THEM
“Ukrainians of Transnistria are living in a state that was established by the will of people, who are masters of their land. Here, all the nations and ethnicities are united, we do not have contradictions on national basis”, was said in the written address of a group of ethnic Ukrainians from Transnistria to the Ukraine’s people, the President, the Government, the Supreme Rada [parliament], to Ukrainian deputies of all the levels and to all the people of good will.
The document says that the information about the allegedly powerless and miserable position of Ukrainians, who live in Transnistria, is just false rumors.
“Neither over the entire 25-year history of our republic, nor today we have seen or felt oppression on ethnic grounds. In the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan republic (PMR) the law on languages has been adopted, which provides that the Ukrainian language is one of the region’s official languages. We have a republican Ukrainian newspaper. Ukrainian programs are being broadcasted on the PMR television and radio. Ukrainians occupy posts of various levels in all the branches of power: chairpersons of state and local administrations, deputies of the PMR supreme soviet [parliament] and of local councils, judges, ministers, heads of enterprises, school teachers and university professors”, say the authors.
They also pointed to the fact that there are no problems of inter-ethnical relations neither between people who live in the PMR, nor between Ukrainians of Transnistria and the region’s authorities.
“Transnistrian people have never had and will never have even an idea to make war or to attack Ukraine. How can one attack one’s own brother? We are one family!” states the address, signed by a number of ethnic Ukrainians of Transnistria, among whom workers of education, of press, PMR parliament deputies, members of the Ukrainian Culture Society of Transnistria.
