MOLDOVAN JCC DELEGATION SUGGESTS MAKING MONITORING OF SECURITY ZONE

06 july, 2015

The Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission [JCC, a supervisory body for the Joint Peacekeeping Forces] has proposed to carry out a thorough and transparent monitoring of the Transnistria Security Zone, the Head of the Moldovan delegation General Ion Solonenco stated to journalists on Friday.

Commenting on the JCC weekly meeting held on Thursday, Solonenco said that such a monitoring is absolutely necessary in the current situation developing in the Security Zone. He believes the monitoring should involve experts from the OSCE Mission to Moldova, from Russia, Ukraine and Moldova.

“This would let establish available problems in the peacekeeping mechanism functioning and would give the military observers a possibility to determine and document all incidents appearing in the Security Zone”, said Ion Solonenco.

According to the Thursday meeting’s agenda, the JCC was supposed to discuss the problem of free movement of people in the Security Zone.

“However, during the meeting the Transnistrian delegation did all it only could to evade discussing of this problem thus ignoring the accords reached previously between all JCC Co-Chairmen. Proceeding from the need to hold extra consultations, it was decided to continue discussing of the raised problems at the next working meeting scheduled for July 10”, said the Moldovan delegation’s press release.
