​TRANSNISTRIA FOREIGN TRADE TURNOVER DECREASES BY A QUARTER IN 2015

Transnistria’s foreign trade turnover in 2015 exceeded $1.749 billion, that is 25.6% ($601.1 million) less than in 2014.

According to the Transnistrian customs committee, exports from the region dropped down by 14.7% to $610.9 million, and imports by 30.4% to $1.138 billion.

Energy resources, primarily electricity, which hold more than $227 million – 37% of the total exports, dominated in exports. The main purchaser of electricity was Moldova, which produces only 20% of energy consumption.

Metals and metal products are on the second place - $130.4 million (-$97.4 million). The third place is occupied by food and raw materials - $84.3 million (-$12.4 million).

Energy resources dominate in imports - $575.1 million. Basically, it is Russian gas, for which Transnistria is not calculated for few years, directing the collected money from consumers on a budget.

They are followed by metals and metal products (scrap metal as raw materials for the production of the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant) - $135.4 million and engineering products $118.7 million.

Russia is Transnistria’s largest trading partner, the turnover of which in 2015 exceeded $634.8 million (-$125.6 million). Import from this country - $587.4 million, export - $47.5 million. Moldova is on the second place - $376.8 million ($76.9 million import, $299.9 million - export). Ukraine is on the third place - $212.7 million ($161.6 and $51 million respectively). Romania and Germany are among the five largest partners - $116.7 million and $77.5 million.
