TRANSNISTRIAN PARLIAMENT INTENDS TO RETURN INTO STATE-RUN MEDIA

05 february, 2016

The supreme soviet of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (PMR) is intending to return into the circle of founders of local state-run mass media, judging by the just-adopted parliamentary resolution prescribing that by February 15, Transnistrian president Yevgeny Shevchuk is requested to express his consent to fix the supreme soviet’s status of a co-founder of the region’s following official mass media outlets: the First Transnistrian TV Channel, Radio-1, Radio Transnistria, “News of Transnistria” press agency, “Vesti PMR” press agency, and newspapers Pridnestroviye, Adevarul Nistrean, and Gomin. Until 2011, these media used to have co-founders in the persons of president of Transnistria and the supreme soviet, but upon Shevchuk’s accession to power, the regional parliament was deprived of that privilege.
